Twitch Affiliate!

We hit Twitch Affiliate! 🙌 HUGE thank you to all the students and viewers hopping in for these live streams. We want to continue creating live streaming content well after SOC100 wraps up in March and have a ton of ideas planned for this, and couldn’t be doing this without all of you.

So what does this mean?

  • The biggest one is it allows us to grow and scale more with the support - and the bigger we get, the more we can continue doing cool things like SOC100!

  • Enriched live chat experience with emotes, private rooms, badges, and community roles

  • Can even run a private sub Discord for special events, and more

Once again, thank you! 🙏

2. Content

SOC100

Class 8 and 9 of SOC100 are up now on YouTube covering a whole ton of content…

  • Class 8: Routers, Switches, Modems, Class A, B, and C IPs, Subnetting, CIDR, into to IP

  • Class 9: Netcat Shells, Sockets, ICMP, DNS Lookups, curl, wget, APIs, SMB, SSH, SCH

DE100

Major updates are underway. Here’s the update from Discord:

Progress is moving forward with the goal of having the first "complete" non-beta version by EOM December or first week January. I feel confident it should be available then in full form. A notable change that we're going to make in the course is that we're working on a Discord "detector bot" that you can engage with. You will be able to review detection challenges from the course and submit your rule to the bot for testing. The bot will evaluate your rule against positive and negative test cases.

The great thing about this is first, it's scalable. Second, it provides you immediate feedback as the test cases will have included write ups explaining the test case being evaluated. The long term goal is to wire up leaderboards and gamification with the bot. For all intents and purposes, the detector-bot is a detection engine hosted and accessible via Discord DMs.

My goal is to add new cases and emerging threat challenges to the bot so as we learn new things in the wild, we can quickly deploy testable and repeatable detection challenges via the bot. The bot will be accessible by Discord users that have a specific role i.e. de100. Your role will dictate what challenges you can see and interact with.”

3. Community

We’re working on kicking off Community Events very soon ran by students that want to step on stage and start working on their speaking skills! Stay tuned for more updates on that one.

Also seeing quite a few testimonials dropping around these days that we are going to add to the website. Love hearing the value you are finding in our content! 🙏

4. Tools

As we come across tools or have them shared to us, we’ll start adding them to the newsletter/blog here on out!

  • https://it-tools.tech/bcrypt recommended from Dumaurier in Discord being essentially a companion to CyberChef - “It has an RSA key pair generator - handy for looking at the differences between public and private keys, that are used for SSH connections etc. Password strength analyser, base 64 encoder/decoder, URL parser which is great for breaking down the different components of URLs, HTTP status codes, chmod calculators and fitting in with recent classes, IPv4 subnet calculator, address converter, range expander, and so many more tools.”

  • https://compl-ai.org/ another Discord recommendation from Calvin - An AI evaluation framework for AI models users can utilise to evaluate AI models. The solution includes technical interpretation of the EU AI Act and an open-source benchmarking suite.”

5. Takeaway This Week

Don’t confuse the fundamentals or the fundamentals will confuse you.

See you next week!
