LE No. 06: SOC100 Cert Unlocked, New Instructors? Holiday Break!
Weekly Update Dec 17th 2024
This is a weekly newsletter & blog post of Level Effect activity meant to inform and update you on what we’re up to! Thank you for tuning in. 📺
Hello Defender!
Exciting week last week as officially kicked off SOC100-2! We’ve also got a nice surprise to share today. Make that TWO nice surprises to share today.
Let’s get into it!
Table of Contents
1. Brand
SOC100 Certifications & First One Live Today!
Surprise #1… It’s official! We are now making individual course certifications for our SOC100 series due to the demand and interest we’ve received. We originally just wanted to make one practical assessment for it all - we are now providing assessments to help you test your ability along the way.
These certs are:
1️⃣ Tightly timed to test your ability to think quickly on spot to a degree that you either know it well enough to answer or not.
2️⃣ Based on scenarios, technical commands, and the ability to choose the best answer given the context.
3️⃣ Entry-level friendly yet challenging, and provide a sense of what it's like to test your technical knowledge.
Check out the landing page for a breakdown:
Some more awesome news coming for the original practical assessment soon. Think of it as the “CDCP” before the CDCP.
New Instructors?
Surprise #2 !
Yep. We’ve got two additional instructors coming onboard that are not only super skilled with a ton of experience, but natural teachers and love everything about providing high quality accessible content that doesn’t break the bank.
Look out for some updates for DFIR and Security Engineering Instructors soon…
Holiday Break
The Level Effect office will be closed from Dec 18th to 26th! We’ll still be around in case there are any account or platform emergencies but expect us to be quieter that time.
Additionally we’ll be quieter from the 27th to Jan 1st before getting back to it again Jan 2nd onward!
There WON’T be a newsletter on Dec 24th.

3. Community
CDCP Feedback 👀
Early feedback of the CDCP thus far:
“ngl, it was pretty difficult I was surprised, but gotta say, it was the most fun I had from a cert exam”
“definitely much better than BTL1, and much harder”
Love hearing this and can’t wait to hear more of what the community thinks!
Student Portfolio Demos
Big shoutout to ByteBusterNikon and JacyHernandez for getting to work on their portfolios and projects! Awesome work gentlemen! 🙌
4. Tools
As we come across recommended tools or guides or have them shared to us, we’ll start adding them to the newsletter/blog here on out!
https://www.reddit.com/r/cybersecurity/comments/1hbuiso/what_will_you_study_in_cybersecurity_if_you_have/ really interesting read on takes for 2025 studies by the community - seeing lots of DFIR & Engineering
https://www.reddit.com/r/cybersecurity/comments/1hbxwzc/is_working_in_this_industry_crap/ another really interesting read that paints some realities of managing expectations (no the field is not crap) but these are good viewpoints to take off rose tinted glasses and focus on what matters - managing risk and by extension giving your assessment to stakeholders to take action. Not you.
Great entry shared by David in our resources with tons of tips and insight into asking better questions! (note - link opens up Discord) https://discord.com/channels/755445294052933632/1316314577880748063/1316314577880748063
5. Takeaway This Week
Honestly going to keep this takeaway here again but trimmed. This especially resonated with me this week.
People rarely remember the first draft, but everyone remembers the final draft.
See you next week!
